Frequently Asked Questions about VagRenew™
VagRenew™ was developed by a Board-Certified Urologist as a once-a-day natural alternative to estrogen creams to rejuvenate the female pelvic system. VagRenew™ is a unique estrogen-free, plant-based natural vaginal rejuvenation product because it is applied directly to the vagina, where the loss of estrogen during menopause is most noticeable.
Menopause is defined as the last menses (period) that a woman has. In general, however, women who are done with their menses are said to be in menopause.
Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) has long been a mainstay of treatment for the symptoms of menopause by the medical community. Recently, some disturbing data has emerged linking HRT to some serious side effects, including heart attacks and strokes, the risk of blood clots, breast cancer, and cancer of the uterus.
Phytoestrogens are similar to estrogens, which decrease markedly after entering menopause. They are very weak estrogens, however, and require very large doses to mimic the effects of estrogen in the body.
The phytoestrogens are absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract quite well, and into the blood stream. All of the blood that drains from the gastrointestinal system, however, passes through the liver before moving to the rest of your body. Almost all of the phytoestrogens are metabolized (destroyed) by the liver in the so-called “first-pass” metabolism. This is true of some other dietary supplements as well.
Increasing dietary soy has been shown to moderately decrease some of the systemic symptoms of menopause (hot flashes, irritability, etc.), but has not been shown to affect the bladder and sexual problems of menopause.
Many of the creams on the market contain natural progesterone, a different kind of hormone that behaves in an altogether different fashion in the body. These can help restore a woman’s hormonal balance. Many women have benefited from progesterone creams. Other phytoestrogen creams contain very little active phytoestrogen.
No. While progesterone creams are important for restoring the estrogen/progesterone balance, they fail to treat the pelvic symptoms of menopause – the vaginal dryness, pain with intercourse, urinary frequency, pelvic pain, recurrent urinary tract and yeast infections, and urinary incontinence.
For many years, doctors have treated those symptoms with estrogen vaginal creams. These, however, need a prescription from a doctor.
The goal is to increase the estrogen to the tissues that need it most – the vagina, the bladder, and the rest of the pelvic organs.
Yes. VagRenew™ was developed as a natural alternative to the use of vaginal estrogen creams. It contains phytoestrogens, vitamin E (a natural lubricant), black cohosh and delivers them directly to the areas that need it most, bypassing the “first-pass” liver metabolism.
Yes. Always check with your doctor. Many women are on both an oral HRT as well as vaginal estrogen for their pelvic symptoms. VagRenew™ is not intended as a replacement for progesterone creams, and may safely be used with them. It works through an entirely different mechanism, and is intended only for the relief of the pelvic symptoms of menopause.
The applicator must be firmly placed on the tip of the VagRenew™ cream tube. While you are filling the tube, be sure to hold the applicator firmly in place. There is a certain amount of VagRenew™ cream that is lost each time the applicator is filled and this amount varies from person to person. If you find that you are running out of VagRenew™ cream faster than you expect, you may minimize loss of the cream by using a heaping 1/4 tsp of cream that you than rub into the folds of the labia and vagina with your fingers. Also keep in mind that when you begin using VagRenew™ cream, you will be using it every day. Thereafter, you will be using the cream either every other day or even less depending on your symptoms. |
